Music Monday: She Makes War

shemakeswardisarm

A year ago this week Phil and I took our first road-trip together to Austin, TX for SXSW 2011. Phil flew in to Tampa from the UK and off we drove to spend a few days in a car together. We live-streamed our trip, took stupidly goofy pictures, managed to put up with the other’s minor annoyances (Phil’s socks! My bad texting while driving habit!) and listened to each other’s favorite music. There was one song in particular that we found ourselves listening to over and over – ‘Scared to Capsize‘ by She Makes War - and after listening to the angst-y, pure and sweet voice of Laura Kidd, I was kinda hooked. It also helped that Phil said, as he played it the first time, “this is totally your song, Krissi,” and he was right – it was perfect for that moment and for the rest of the moments in 2011.

Flashback Friday: The time I got my 4-year-old High (Accidentally, of course)

mixtape

I’m sulking at home because I’m not at South-by-Southwest for the first time in four years, so I thought I’d cheer myself up and share the LOLZ with another reblogged Flashback Friday. I had a lot of fun with last week’s #FF because it gave me the chance to make fun of myself (yes, I actually enjoy this!) and I also received some kick-ass feedback about my writing style (thanks, guys!)  While I know there’s not much than can top a creepy guy at Wal-Mart trying to “pick me up” based on my scarred arm, I have to say this post might be able to do just that. For reference, my son, a.k.a. ‘The Kidlet’ will be turning TWELVE in July and I’m probably fairly lucky that while he’s learning the “just say no to drugs” mantra in middle school he has no memory of the first time he was accidentally introduced to an inhalant and how we both got pretty goofy. Enjoy today’s FF – “Christmas Crafts – How to Accidentally Introduce your 4-year-old to Inhalants.

NYC Dec 2011

NYC Dec 2011

I’ve been to NYC quite a few times in the last few years, but never over the winter holidays. I had always wanted to see New York lit up and decorated for Christmas and to experience the city more as a potential future resident and city-dweller than as a tourist. This is the story of my trip.

Skyline from the Sky

nycpost

8:53 A new adventure begins today. Not just a trip, but a lifetime – or at least a new chance.

13:02 Seeing the NY skyline from the air and then being in the middle of Manhattan less than an hour later was just.. priceless. I love this city so much. I’m walking around with a big stupid grin on my face. It always feels like home here.

Holidays

15:50 The Kidlet left for Germany for 2 weeks w/ The Ex. I miss him already. Our goodbye was shorter than usual because we were rushed to the front of the line at the last minute. Christmas isn’t the same without him around…
